Test and Essay Items

When students are given a test that is either multi-choice or true or false questions, they require less time to construct than other objective items and most of the time are prone to be guessed. Matching items are pretty easy to do, but lack clarity and specificity in directions.

It is difficult to truly find out if the student has learned when they take a multi-choice or true or false test. They could have guessed the answers and were very lucky to get a good grade on the test. When the student is given an essay, the student is required to supply the answer and not select the answer. The student will then be able to explain their answer more thoroughly. The teacher will then be able to see that the student has learned.
